It is not only the pupils at the Moorland Road school but also the whole community who can benefit from Hodgson’s latest addition.

The wall includes an overhang section, over 30 individual climbing routes and corner piece to offer an additional challenge.

Seven members of the teaching staff completed an intensive climbing course to lead small climbing groups bouldering and rope climbing.

The introduction to climbing will benefit PE qualifications as well as strengthen the pupils in many different sporting areas.

The new wall at Hodgson is the only registered facility on the Fylde coast to offer pupils a National Indoor Climbing Award Scheme qualification, enabling young leaders to instruct others on the wall.

Hodgson lead teacher of PE Craig McCann told AllStars: “This is an exciting time for the PE department and plans are in place to host climbing festivals and competitions in the summer term.”
