Viva Las Vegas!
That’s the motto of Blackpool pool hot-shot Karl Boyes.
Next week he will be competing in the main team event in world pool.
He is in the European team taking on the United States in the Mosconi Cup, which is the pool equivalent of golf’s Ryder Cup.
From Monday through to Thursday, Boyes will be in the European team taking on the Yanks on their home soil at the Mirage Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, the action being screened on Sky Sports.
Boyes is in the five-strong Europe side alongside fellow Briton Darren Appleton, as well as Ralf Souquet (Germany) Niels Fiejen (Holland) and Mike Immonen (Finland)
The 31-year-old Boyes last played for Europe in the Mosconi Cup in 2010 when he made a winning debut.
He said: “That was the best moment of my pool career
“I gave a good account of myself in a pressurised environment - my worst moment was losing to Johnny Archer in the singles.
“I was 5-1 down and got it back to 5-5, but could only watch as he ran out the decider from the break.”
The US will be represented in the Moconi Cup by Johnny Archer (Georgia) Earl Strickland (North Carolina) Rodney Morris (Hawaii) Shane Van Boening (South Dakota) and Dennis Hatch (New York).
