Blackpool boxer Brian Rose saw his world title dreams wrecked in brutal style by Demetrius Andrade at the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn.

Rose was totally out-classed in a one-sided contest for the world light-middleweight title.

Rose’s face looked a sorry mess by the end as the contest was stopped in round seven.

The portents had looked grim from the outset on a night when Rose had hoped to be the first Blackpool boxer to win a world title.

The Blackpool fighter was knocked down in the first by a vicious left hook.

He was down again in the third as Andrade showed a bewildering display of hand speed, punching power and superior ring craft.

It came as no surprise that the contest was halted to prevent Rose taking needless punishment.

He had a big swelling over his right eye, while he had to go to Brooklyn Hospital for an examination of his damaged nose.

Rose was sanguine in the immediate aftermath.

“I was beaten by a world class operator, who was a class above me.”

But there was a happy ending in the dressing-room afterwards.

Rose got down on one knee and proposed to his partner Danielle - and she gladly accepted.

There is also a new baby on the way.

Rose joked: “Thankfully Danielle accepted - if she had turned me down, that would have made it a very bad night.”
