Rose ready for the world, with Bloomfield Road dream

But first, the 28-year-old British lightmiddleweight champion is relishing another fight in his home town next month as he bids for worldwide fame.

Rose will face 36-year-old Joachim Alcine at the Winter Gardens on April 20 in a show being billed ‘The New Life of Brian’.

It will be his first fight since linking up with boxing giants Matchroom, controlled by Eddie Hearn.

On the same bill, Lytham lightweight Scotty Cardle fights for his first professional crown, the Central Area title, against Maxi Hughes.

Promoter Hearn says he has big plans for Rose.

“This fight is a massive step-up for Brian,” he told The Gazette. “This is effectively from British level on to the world stage.

“We have plenty of plans for him in the next year, but if we are going to move Brian on to the world level, then he will outgrow the Winter Gardens.

“I’ve always got dreams and visions.

“But an outdoor fight at Blackpool Football Club next summer for the world title would be a beautiful thing.”

Rose’s career has been on the up and up since bouncing back from defeat against Max Maxwell in May 2010 to land the British belt in November 2011.

‘The Lion’ saw off Kris Carslaw and Sam Webb to claim the Lonsdale belt outright and he can’t wait to fight on home soil again.

Rose said: “I’m over the moon about this show. I have great support in Blackpool and hopefully this will continue.

“The show will be packed to the rafters – it’s going to be great.

“I wouldn’t be moving up to the next level if I didn’t think I was ready.

“If people are doubting me, I’ll prove them wrong.

“I’ve cleaned up at domestic level. There’s not really anyone out there to fight, so I’m ready for the next chapter and for the world stage.”

After a successful amateur career, 23-year-old Cardle turned pro just over a year ago and has won all nine bouts since.

He told The Gazette: “This is the step-up I’ve always wanted and I’m looking forward to it.

“It’s great to be having a Matchroom show in Blackpool. To have the support of the town behind us is going to be great.

“I need to try and build up support in Blackpool now, so I hope everyone get’s behind me.”

Rose’s opponent Alcine is a Hiatian-Canadian based in Montreal, who has won 33 of his 36 fights.

Rose and Cardle will be joined on the bill by by Kal Yafai, Callum Smith and Thomas Stalker, with a chief-support to will be announced next week.
