Jack Arnfield's title fight to feature on huge Arena bill

Arnfield is challenging for the British title for the second time in his career

The Blackpool fighter was originally due to challenge for Tommy Langford’s Lonsdale strap at the Winter Gardens on February 10.

But that has since been cancelled, giving Arnfield the opportunity to box on the undercard of George Groves’ clash with Chris Eubank Jnr.

The super-middleweight rivals will meet in a World Boxing Super Series semi-final at the Manchester Arena on February 17, with the WBA and IBO world titles on the line.

Tickets sold out in just seven minutes, meaning the biggest fight of Arnfield’s career thus far will come in front of a packed house and on ITV Box Office.

Arnfield, who was beaten on points by Nick Blackwell when he first challenged for the title in 2015, says he can’t wait to bring the title back to the Fylde coast.

“It’s a huge opportunity for me,” Arnfield told The Gazette. “They’re expecting huge global viewing figures, maybe as many as a couple of million watching. I’ll be fighting in a sold-out arena too.

“My first shot at the British title didn’t quite go to plan against Nick Blackwell. But I’ve had a full camp this time, so hopefully I can bring it home.

“Training has been non-stop over Christmas. I’ve been flat out and that will continue right up to fight day.”

Devon-born Langford has lost just one of his 20 fights, picking up the British strap with a split decision win against Sam Sheedy in 2016. This will be the first defence.

Arnfield, who has won 25 out of his 27 fights, believes he has more than enough to beat the champion. “Tommy is an athlete and lives a good life,” added the 28-year-old. “I’m under no illusions it will be a tough fight but I believe I am the better fighter.

“He’s fit but I’m even fitter. We have a similar style as we both like to come forward and keep busy, but I’m the better boxer and that will be the difference. I think I’ll be able to outbox him.

“If I win, I have the option to defend it but I’m highly ranked with all the governing bodies, so there’s the potential for a world title shot at some point this year.

“If not, then I’ll certainly be looking for an eliminator because I want to progress.”
