Boxer Menay Edwards has finally been discharged from hospital after being stopped by Blackpool’s Matty Askin in a fight for the English cruiserweight title at the town’s Winter Gardens.

Edwards, who was stretchered from the ring after being floored by a left hook from Askin in round nine, spent days in Blackpool Victoria Hospital as he recovered after suffering bleeding on the brain.

Edwards has been forced to quit boxing.

He was given a final assessment at the hospital and deemed fit enough to return home.

A spokesman for the fight promoters at the Winter Gardens said: “Everyone at Hatton Promotions wishes him the very best for the future.”
