The announcement has set the scene for a repeat of their explosive contest when the pair last met.

That was rated one of the domestic fights of the year when the two clashed at the Echo Arena, Liverpool in November.

Cardle looked in serious danger of losing his grip on the Lonsdale Belt as Dodd produced the performance of his career and looked on the verge of an upset points win.

But the Lytham boxer, displaying the true resilience of a champion, came back strongly and forced a stoppage in the 12th round.

The re-match has been set for April 2, again at the Echo Arena.

Once again local favourite Dodd will have partisan local support, though Cardle says he was unfazed the first time round and will be again.

It will be a huge night of action on Merseyside.

Callum Smith takes on Hadillah Mohoumadi in a World Boxing Council world super-middleweight final eliminator.

Unbeaten Smith is targeting a clash with WBC champion Badou Jack but must first dismiss Frenchman Mohoumadi, who also puts his European title on the line in the bout.

‘Mundo’s’ last action was in the Echo Arena in an all-Liverpool battle for the British and Commonwealth titles against Rocky Fielding, and he is straight back into action in a great fight, taking on former European champion Christopher Rebrasse, the Frenchman that handed tough examinations to both Smith and three-time World title challenger George Groves.
