Lytham boxer Scott Cardle is looking forward to “some big fights in 2014” and maybe a British title shot after his 13th successive victory as a professional in Manchester.
The 24-year-old lightweight was a comprehensive points winner over resilient Polish fighter Krzysztof Szot, winning every round.
The Manchester Arena bout formed part of the undercard paving the way for Carl Froch’s controversial victory over George Groves on Saturday night, and victor Cardle told The Gazette: “I had a good chat with (promoter) Eddie Hearn after the fight and he thinks it’s time for me to step up. I won every round and dominated from the start.”
Even so, the 35-year-old Szot, who had won 17 of his previous 26 fights, earned Cardle’s respect as a tough customer. “He’s a tough kid. I watched him a few times and could tell he was durable. But I felt strong and I’m happy with my performance,” he said.
