Askin wins British cruiserweight title with sixth round KO

He knocked out Craig Kennedy in round six at the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff to lay claim to the Lonsdale Belt.

Askin was dominant from the outset and had his rival, boxing in front of his home fans, down for a count in the first round.

It was the first of several times that Askin hit home.

The fight came to a dramatic ending when Askin, from St Annes but announced in the ring from Blackpool, unleashed a heavy handed right, which knocked Kennedy to the canvas in the sixth session.

Askin had predicted that he would win in emphatic style and he was true to his word.

It was victory in British title fight at the second attempt, having lost narrowly to Ovill McKenzie in a previous challenge for the Lonsdale Belt.

The win continues a remarkable sequence of successes for Askin.

He won the Amateur Boxing Association title and in the professional ranks he has won the Central Area, English and now British title to complete the 'set.'
