Askin will pose all the questions

The duo meet in a final eliminator for the British cruiserweight title for the right to face Craig Kennedy in 2017 for the vacant Lonsdale Belt.

They had been due to meet earlier, the scheduled match-up at Bolton having to be called off when McCarthy pulled out with a shoulder injury from he has now recovered.

Jennings says the delay did not cause any disruption; in fact, the opposite was probably true.

He said: “If anything, it was a good thing because it gave us time to polish things more in training.

“The thing is that people have not seen the best of Matty Askin in the ring yet.

“They don’t realise how good he is; in fact, maybe Matty does not realise it himself and how good he can be.

“But people haven’t seen what myself and my brother, Dave, have seen in the gym and what he is capable of doing.

“If Matty carries out what he has been doing in training then he beats McCarthy in all departments.

“This is a massive fight for Matty and he has to get everything right because there is so much at stake and a chance to box for the British title.

“He has had good sparring in training and we know what kind of tactics McCarthy will try.

“He will try and use the counter-punch and there is no chance of him beating Matty that way.”

Stalmine boxer Jack Arnfield is also on the fight card at the Victoria Warehouse venue this evening.

Arnfield boxes Dan Blackwell, which is a huge step-down from the calibre of his last opponent, John Ryder, whom he beat to land the World Boxing Association international title.

Blackwell is a 60-bout loser and is the brother of Nick Blackwell, to whom Arnfield lost when he challenged for the British title last year and later had to retire on account of serious injuries when losing to Chris Eubank Junior.

Arnfield should have no problem in this clash, but Jennings is demanding the highest standards.

He warned: “I don’t want Jack to sink to Blackwell’s level. He has to box like the champion that he is.”
