Askin lined up for July ring return

Matty Askin is to have his first fight since an unsuccessful attempt to win the British and Commonwealth cruiserweight title when he boxes in Ellesmere Port next month.

The English cruiserweight champion, now based in St Annes, will have a warm-up fight before defending his belt at Ellesmere Port Sports Village on July 25.

His opponent at the Cheshire venue has yet to be decided.

The fight will take place before Askin’s proposed English title against Lawrence Bennett.

This bout had to be put back when the champion injured an ankle in an accident at home.

The purse bids for Askin versus Bennett had to be re-submitted after the champion’s injury setback.

Frank Warren won the original purse bid.

Doors open for the Ellesmere Port show at 6.15pm, with the first bell at 7pm.

Standard tickets are £40, while ringside seats are £60.
