The Fylde coast favourite couldn’t keep his run going on Saturday, losing to Ireland’s William O’Connor 10-6 in round four.

Even so, it has been a pleasing start to 2017 for Baxter, who had slipped to 73rd in the Professional Darts Corporation World rankings but regained his tour card for the next two years at Qualifying School in Wigan.

Peter Wright won the UK Open, beating Gerwyn Price 11-6 in the final.
