Blackpool Wyre and Fylde athletes in English Schools Championships

The premier event of the schools' track and field week was the English Schools Championships at the Gateshead International Stadium.

To qualify for this event is quite an achievement.

Bradley Parsons of Blackpool Wyre and Fylde AC was in the junior boys’ 100m, finishing with 12.18 in his heats.

Bradley was also on the anchor leg of the relay team, which finished fourth in the heats with 48.19 but did not qualify for the final.

Although Bradley was not fully satisfied with his performance on the day, he enjoyed the overall experience and is keen qualify next year.

In the senior boys’ event, Alex Obiorah was in the 100m sprint, finishing with 11.45secs, and in the 4x100m relay, in which the team was second with 44.07 only to be disqualified in the final.

Luke Halstead, who has been injured most of the season, competed in the high jump and was 15th in 1.86m.

There were three girls from BWFAC, who represented Lancashire in the junior pole vault.

They had a successful championships, with Kirsty Rushton seventh in 2.95m, equaling her personal best.

Jasmine Carey was ninth with the same clearance, also a pb, with Amelia Shearman 13th with 2.55m.

Fiona Hockey competed in the senior girls’ event and was sixth with 3.40m.

Ash Colvin ran the senior 100m in 26.46 and was also part of the 4x100m relay team which qualified for the final second in their heat with 48.90.

They were fourth in the final, meeting the national standard with an excellent time of 48.57.
