Handball has grown greatly at the Kirkham school since its introduction three years ago.

Carr Hill have developed some talented players who have represented Lancashire teams and had North West trials.

The new club provides a platform to keep the young players involved in the sport once they reach school-leaving age.

Working in partnership with Lancashire Sport Partnership and England Handball, Carr Hill teacher Leigh Doughty successfully bid for Sportivate Funding to set up an eight-week handball programme for 16-25s, which began this month.

A further £4,831 from Sport England Small Grants funding will help the club to continue its six-month project from September.

GB handball star Chris McDermott was due to attend one of the first sessions at Carr Hill’s sports dome to help the coaching.
