The final local outdoor track and field meeting of the season, the Blackpool Open Medals meeting, took place on a day of heavy showers and very little sun.

In the senior events, gold was won by Susan Ball (hammer), Gabrielle Jones (400m), Louis Walker (javelin) and George Fox (F37 shot put).

The junior ranks saw wins for Kirsty Rushton and Bradley Parsons (Under-17s’ 100m), while Mollie Mason was strong in the long throws with victory in the discus and second places in the javelin and hammer.

Ciaran Medd won both the discus and shot put, while there were three different BWFAC winners in the Under-15 girls’ throwing events.

Charlotte Jones was victorious in the hammer, Maisie Rogers the discus and Lydia Hunt the javelin, while Riley Nagle won the 300m in addition to second places in the 100m and 200m.

At Under-11 level, Connor Norman was second in both the 80m and long jump with Jessica Roach the first of 22 in the long jump.

It was wild and wet for the Fleetwood Triathlon.

In the senior section, consisting of a 400m swim, 20K bike ride and 5K run, Caroline Betmead was 10th lady in 1:15.08 and Michelle Tickle 16th in 1:18.26.

The overall series saw Caroline finish as second female overall and Michelle second vet lady.

Michelle also competed in the English Half Marathon Weekend of running, taking part in Friday’s 5K night run with husband Simon.

She was second lady and 27th overall in 17:57, just behind Simon (26th, 17:48), while Sunday’s EHM 10K saw her 30th and first lady V40 (43:01).

There were 16 BWFAC runners at the last Blackpool parkrun.

Steve Dunn posted a PB of 19:56 for 18th place, finishing ahead of Paul Sparrow (20th, 20:06) and Nick Hume (26th, 20:33).

There were also PBs recorded by Danielle Baines (23:58), Bob Massey (28:50) and Nickola Walker (29:21).

Katy Wyper and Scott Sinclair were named as the club’s athletes of the month for August, while Riley Nagle was also nominated.
