Blackpool Wyre and Fylde athletes step up pace in Sportshall League

Blackpool, Wyre and Fylde AC continued their improvement in the second of three Lancashire Sportshall League fixtures at the Blackpool Sport Centre.

He won the speed bounce with 61 bounces in 20 seconds, while Forest Leah finished third.

Dominic was also fifth in the two-lap race and third in the triple jump, while the Under-11 boys were fourth in the team competition.

There were fine performances by Rubie Linley and Grace Cholmoneley, while Millie Turner finished second in the vertical jump with Grace Oates fifth in the two-lap and third in the speed bounce with a total of 54 in 20 seconds.

Rafael Eaton won the two-lap race, was fourth in the six-lap race and second in the speed bounce with 81 in 30 seconds.

George MacKenzie was third in the long jump as the Under-13 boys finished third, while the girls’ competition saw Jessica Heginbotham finish fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 5.78m.

Jack Prescott competed in his first Sportshall competition and was third in the two-lap race and the shot put.

The rest of squad included Max Nelson, Oliver Hargreaves, Harrison Booth-Isherwood, Grace Oates, Marcia Rutter, Grace Rutter, Finlay Pollard, Deetray Jarrett, Trayden Jarrett, Joshua Sumner, Alfie Hall, Ryan Donnelly, James Boak and Zac Terras.

Members are deep in training with fewer than two months to the start of the outdoor track and field season and BWFAC’s Winter Warm-up meeting on March 17.

Sixteen BWFAC athletes tested out their training at the most recent Sale Open Indoor meeting held in Sportcity.

Among the highlights for BWFAC was the return of Faith Wood, who posted 8.79s in the 60m after missing the latter part of the 2016 season and all of 2017.

Other encouraging performances saw 60m PBs for Alex Hughes (7.47s), Mary-Jane Broomhead (8.41s) and Megan Lewis (8.75s).

Under-13 duo Keira Tomes and Jessica Roache posted 9.46s and 9.55s respectively for 60m.

Leah Howard and Sebby Holt equalled their high jump personal bests with 1.50m and 1.45m respectively, while Natalia Luczak (1.35m) and Kacie Calvert (1.25m) were close.

The recent 2K Park View parkrun saw BWFAC’s Forest Leah first across the line in 7:43.

The Tickle family did the Cannon Hill parkrun in Birmingham where Jack Tickle was just one second outside his best time for 5km with 18:40.

Lucy posted a time of 23:21 and youngest sister Holly finished in 26:20.
