Have your say

Animals should have a cruelty-free death

I was heartened to hear Lancashire County Council planned to ban unstunned meat in schools under its control.

Not before time.

I hope this will go at least some way to make slaughtering in this country a little more humane than it is at present.

My view has nothing to do with religion and everything to do with making sure all animals due for the table have a decent exit, not subjected to pain, and drowning in their own blood before dying, not understanding what is happening to them.

I have seen baby goats killed in this way.

They screamed and gurgled as they tried to breathe for what seemed ages before dying.

We have laws in this country against cruelty and there should be no exceptions for anyone.

You will have read about the case of Bowood Slaughter House and the Animal Aid report, after the men who worked there received lenient sentences, even though they were found guilty of cruelty.

I hope LCC doesn’t give up on its efforts to ban unstunned meat in schools and hope other councils, like Blackpool, will join them in their stance.

Say no to the Dark Side of the Force...

With his analogy of Jeremy Corbyn as Obi Wan Kenobi from Star Wars (Your Say, March 5), Harry Francis is displaying the true colours of many on the left.

Britain under Corbyn will be marked by authoritarianism and intolerance of dissent, where freedom of speech will not just be attacked, but vilified as dangerous to the common good. Thought crime will become a depressing reality.

Make no mistake, man-of-the-people Corbyn is no loveable ‘old Ben’. Nor is he a man of the people. He is calculating and will say anything to get elected.

If I may correct your analogy, Harry, we should think of Corbyn more as Grand Moff Tarkin, the cold-hearted leader played by Peter Cushing in your favourite film.

The facts are these:

n Britain under Corbyn will see the doors flung open to mass immigration. Inevitable problems with integration will be compounded if the economy under John McDonnell collapses and jobs disappear like an exploding Death Star.

n Corbyn is an ideologue, and when dogma is more important than people, people suffer. The worst case scenario is that attacks on this country’s Jewish community will rise as criticism of ‘Israel’ and Jewish people in general become increasingly conflated.

n He will push ahead with his desire to transfer the Falklands over to Argentina? He may pontificate about shared sovereignty but any such move will be irreversible, with a rampant Argentina pushing for more.

n It is obvious who the Emperor is in this disturbing picture. It’s none other than the ‘arch enemy’ of the nation state and of any opposition herself... Angela Merkel. Britain under Corbyn will betray Brexit voters and re-enter the Empire via the back door – and we won’t get out again!

Bringing the Star Wars analogy to a close, any Rebel Alliance fighting for freedom must be very cautious. Freedom of speech, freedom of religion and the protection of the British way of life will be punished in a way the left excel at: shaming and labelling, to silence anyone who dares to disagree with their agenda and resist their social engineering.

Say ‘no’ to the Dark Side.

End of United States of Europe dream

At last the EU bully boys, who are threatening dire consequences for the UK if we don’t submit to their vindictive conditions for leaving, have now met their match in President Trump.

It is so easy for these unelected bureaucrats to bully a small nation like ours, but not so easy to frighten the leader of the most powerful nation in the world.

If President Trump imposes tariffs of 25 per cent on steel and cars from the EU, the whole EU economy will collapse like snow before the summer rain, bringing an end to EU dreams of a United States of Europe.
