Fylde coast residents not lovin' plans for new McDonalds

Residents have set up an online petition against the bid and have vowed to write to the council.

David Taylor, of Osborne Avenue, said: “Many people in the area are unhappy with this.

“I have spoken to people in Radnor Avenue and Victoria Road who will be writing to oppose the plan.

“We think it will cause residents disturbance at night and there are already traffic problems at the roundabout and this will just make things worse.

“That area of land also floods so we think it is not suitable for a McDonalds.”

A McDonald’s spokesman said: “We can confirm that we have submitted a joint application with Morrisons for a drive thru restaurant on the supermarket car park in Cleveleys. If approved the restaurant would create at least 65 full and part-time jobs.”

A spokesman for Wyre Council confirmed that the original takeaway application was not on its website due to it being flawed. They said: “Any planning application, once it is validly made, will be made public and members of the public will be able to make a comment.”

This is so needed, with the huge decline in Cleveleys (closed shops, charity shops shutting) this will create over 100 jobs, and pay huge sums of council tax etc, great news for Cleveleys as we have nothing else. Just my personal opinion.

Andy Large

Eleven letters of objection probably from old generation..it’s been crying out for a McDonald’s between Fleetwood and Blackpool for years plus will be new jobs for these so called objectors grand children etc and it’s not loud as shuts at 11 or earlier.

Andy Durham

I really don’t see the big issue. No one is being forced to use it. If you don’t like McDonald’s, then don’t go in.

Cleveleys has really gone downhill in last 10 years, it’s time cleveleys realised there not a cut above anymore, the end of the lace curtains and kippers era has arrived. Welcome McDonalds.

Mark Mildenhall

The congestion can be bad enough there at the moment when using Morrison’s and this will add to it. Like we don’t have enough fast food restaurants anyway.

Gail Barrie

I do feel for the people who have houses round there as their mortgages aren’t cheap... maybe someone needs to list their concerns and hold a meeting to how they will try and combat them and maybe put their concerns to bed. Yes there will be the ones who just don’t like progress but it’ll happen no matter what.

Tes Snelson

I lived opposite the one in Fleetwood for three years, never had a problem with smells, noise, or litter (they send people out every day to litter pick)

Just the wrong location. That car park is a nightmare at the best of times. Like someone has said old BP station on Prom ideal.

Donna Doolittle

I’m all for it. Anything that brings jobs to the area is a bonus for young people.

Jay Dee

I hope it goes through it would be great for families up in Cleveleys.

Gillian Hilton

Cleveleys need this. Bring this sleepy town to life.

Dawn Williams

This is needed, sick of traveling to Fleetwood or Blackpool to get a quarter pounder.

How can it be bad for local wildlife? Surely all the discarded scraps would attract an abundance of rats and seagulls.

Neil Hall

I reckon a petition should be set up for this McDonald’s to deliver.... Great little hangover breakfast!!

Claire Duckworth

All these people whining about this are the same people who will be queuing up in the drive through for a cheeseburger and fries , sad really when you think about the new jobs it will create,, I for one can’t wait for it to open

Neil Pilling

The dispute is over where its going to be, not that a McDonalds shouldn’t be built. Apparently there are four more places in Cleveleys that would better suit a McDonalds being built on.

People should realise how many jobs this will bring to area. What harm does a McDonalds do? It’s time Clevelys was woken up– far better now with all new shops in the area. Stop moaning and get on with your sad lives. Old people town for too long now. They spend nothing .

Jean Miller

“It would bring more people to the area.”

I can imagine coach loads of tourists flooding in to eat a Big Mac in a car park.

Paul Carolan

The same people who object to this are the same ones who post on Thornton Cleveleys chat when their cat is 15 mins late home for its tea. Painful people with nothing going on in their life.

Mark Eastwood

The same people who complain about McDonald’s are the same people who complain that the youth are lazy and don’t work well you’re a bunch of Hypocrites because you’re turning away 65 full or part time jobs. I hope your happy in your blue rinse towers

Joe Millwood

Why not build it up on the prom? Loads of wasted space.

Lesley Kim

There are young people and families that would welcome a McDonalds to the town. I for one will be a visitor and will save going up to Fleetwood or into Blackpool.
