You have your say on closure of Bond's of Elswick

The closure of Bond's of Elswick brought back some childhood memories for many of our readers.

The ice cream and parlour will be closing before Christmas after owner Martin Molloy announced his retirement.

The closure of the popular destination means the loss of around 20 part-time and full time jobs.

The land has planning permission for up to eight houses but part of it could be retained for the ice cream business if a suitable buyer comes along.

It will close its doors for the last time on December 23.

Here’s what you had to say

Very sad Bond’s is closing, we have been going to the restaurant for many years, the food is always good, it’s a shame traditional restaurants are closing I can’t stand chain food. New Penny Grill in Poulton has scrumptious award winning ice cream.

Another part of the Fylde’s history vanishing. It is well over 50 years since we started going there as a family for our “treat” from Blackpool. Best wishes to all the staff.

Kath Parkinson

We should be wishing him a long and happy retirement after giving generations the pleasure of the luscious ice-cream produced there. Thank you Martin and all the best.

His hands are tied by market forces so no blame there.

This is a shame. I’m from Elswick, it won’t be the same without Bond’s.

Been going there since late sixteen and it is shame it closing down, I must say though the vanilla ice cream they serve now doesn’t taste anything like it used to, probobly due to cost, however having said that their products are not cheap. Ah well never mind all things come to an end sometime!

Wallings bigger and better value for money, more flavours just fantastic

Very sad to lose my ice cream treat, have also enjoyed a very pleasant meal there too, hope they change their minds

All these houses are being built to meet government and council targets but where are jobs to support the people living in them? Clearly they are not in Elswick

Stri

Well thank you to Bond’s for some very lovely times

Nic Hall

I’m devastated... not even because of the ice cream but because of all the memories of dad there. Such a shame it’s closing. Gutted
