X Factor’s top lady set for resort date

Get set for a date with the winner of X-Factor Sam Bailey, though fans shouldn’t get too excited – it’s another year until she arrives.

The winner of the last X-Factor series has announced her first UK tour, which includes a night at the Opera House in the Winter Gardens.

But she won’t play the venue until February 10, 2015.

Bailey, 36, shot to fame before Christmas when she won the X-Factor, one of the oldest winners since the show began.

Following her victory, she released debut single Skyscraper which was the Christmas number one.

The success is something of a dream for Bailey, who worked full time as a prison officer in Leicester prior to winning the ITV show.

“I’ve been performing since I was 15 but I never got to where I wanted to be,” said Bailey.

“Then real life, needing to pay bills, marriage and children happened and you just put everything on hold.

“X-Factor gave a woman like me a chance. It gave me my confidence back, it gave me music back, and this tour is for all those people out there who believed in me and supported me.

“I can’t wait to go out and play these shows.”

Bailey is just one in a long line of successful performers to use the reality TV show as a spring board. Others include Leona Lewis, Olly Murs, JLS, Little Mix, Alexandra Burke to name just a few.

Bailey’s debut album, The Power Of Love, is due out next month but the live gigs don’t happen for another 12 months.

Bailey starts a 15-date UK tour next January with a gig in her hometown of Leicester, before heading to Liverpool, Glasgow and Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall.
