World record bid at Blackpool music event

Fylde coast folk can take part in a world record attempt on Sunday as a free charity music event is set to rock the Comedy Carpet.

Residents and visitors are being asked to stand in formation to help form the world’s largest musical note to help support the Blackpool Music Run.

Sunday’s event is a warm up for the music run itself due to take place on September 23 and will be presented by Hayley Kay and feature tribute act Ultimate Elton John who will play throughout the record attempt which starts at 12.45pm.

One of the organisers, Coun Luke Taylor said: “He is fantastic and he is putting together a special five minute medley for the record attempt itself, so expect, “I’m Still Standing” to feature in there.

“It is a free event ahead of the main Blackpool; Music Run and we want to showcase local talent too.

“We have acts from Blackpool Sixth Form, All We Know, The Sound, Simon Stirzaker and Megan Delves, and students will be helping out to get some experience on the stage, which is actually solar powered.

“Many festivals are looking to go green and on the main event we will have four out of the nine stages solar powered.

“As Blackpool Music Run’s chosen charity Streetlife will also be at the event with collection buckets for donations.

“So I am hoping everyone will come along for some music in the sunshine on Sunday.”

Festival fun

Sunday’s event will run from 12.45 to 3pm on the Comedy Carpet.

The main Blackpool Music Run is on Sunday, September 23 from noon to 4pm.

It features a 10k run along the Prom with more than 20 live acts take to nine stages along the 10km route from the Metropole to Squires Gate and back.

Bands include The Hoosiers and boyband Union J.
