Woman threatened in ‘machete’ siege

A MAN who held a woman hostage at knifepoint during an armed siege in St Annes has been arrested.

Police were called to Derbe Road, St Annes at 4.15pm on Thursday.

A man, believed to be holding a machete, was inside the property and had threatened the woman.

Armed police evacuated other flats on Derbe Road to its junction with Clifton Drive South.

Police say the man was refusing to let them into the flats.

Witnesses reported seeing objects being thrown from one of the windows.

A police negotiator was called to the scene.

A Lancashire Police spokesman said the man was arrested by officers at the flat around 6pm.

An ambulance has been called but it is believed the woman was unhurt.
