A woman who stole two tins of Spam and a tin of ham from a shop said she would probably have fed the meat to her dogs.
Maralyn Heginbotham, 41, of Knox Grove, Blackpool, pleaded guilty to theft before a court.
She was given a nine month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £85 costs plus £15 victims’ surcharge by District Judge Roger Lowe sitting at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court.
Rachel Parker, prosecuting, said Heginbotham was stopped at 1.25pm on November 18 after taking three cans of meat valued at £7 from Costcutters.
Kathryn Jamieson-Sinclair, defending, said her client had little recollection of the offence. She added if Heginbotham had not been caught she would probably have fed the meat to her dogs.
