A woman has gone on the run after stealing jewellery which once belong to a bereaved daughter’s late mother.

The daughter of the dead woman wept as she told a court how the thief stole valuable gold and diamond rings plus jewellery including a necklace and bracelet after she was taken in when she was ill.

Gemma Heneghan was later confronted about the theft by the daughter and was found to be wearing a necklace and bracelet belonging to the mother.

Heneghan, 24, of Convent Crescent, Grange Park, pleaded not guilty to the offence.

She did not turn up at court and was found guilty of theft after a trial in her absence. Blackpool magistrates then issued a warrant without bail for Heneghan’s arrest.
