Police are appealing for information to trace the family of a young woman who died after being struck by a vehicle on a Fylde road.

The woman, thought to be aged between 16 and 22, was found lying on Preston New Road near Clifton at 10.50pm on Tuesday.

She was taken to Royal Preston Hospital where she later died.

A 26-year-old man, from Lytham, was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop at the scene of an accident and is currently in police custody.

Road policing officer Sgt Sean Cunningham said: “This is a tragic incident where a young woman has sadly passed away after what appears to be some kind of collision.

“We are still trying to determine exactly what has happened and how the woman has come to be injured.

“At this moment, the woman’s identity is still to be found and so we are asking anyone who may recognise her description to come forward.”

She is described as being a white female aged between 16 and 22-years-old. She is approximately 5ft 10ins and of slim build with long dark hair that would come to the middle of her back and it appears to have feathers woven into it.

She was wearing black Nike trainers, jeans and a grey hooded top.
