POLICE have launched an investigation following the death of a dog walker who was knocked down by a car in Blackpool.
The 68-year-old woman was walking her three dogs when she was hit by a silver Ford Focus on Queens Promenade in North Shore.
The crash happened just after 5pm on Friday
Police say the woman was walking along the pavement outside The Savoy hotel when it is believed she stepped out into the road and was hit by the car which was heading towards Lytham.
The woman was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital and although her injuries were initially not thought to be life threatening, she died a few hours later.
Police are still trying to trace her next of kin and are now appealing for any witnesses to contact them.
Sgt Malcolm Bell from Blackpool’s road policing unit, said: “An investigation is underway into the full circumstances of what has happened but it was a busy time in the evening so I would appeal to anybody who witnessed this collision to contact Lancashire Police on 101.”
