Woman airlifted to hospital with 'serious injuries' after Fleetwood beach fall

A woman was airlifted to hospital after she fell from a wall onto a beach in Fleetwood, says the coastguard.

Coastguard rescue teams were called out at around 4.15pm on Tuesday May 22 to Jubilee Quay to assist ambulance services with the woman's rescue.

Ambulance services say the woman, who is around 35 years old, is believed to have suffered head and serious leg injuries.

A spokesman for the HM Coastguard Fleetwood said: "On arrival at the scene, teams worked together to set up a rope safely system to enable paramedics to assess the casualty and ascertain the injuries.

"Due to the difficult position of the casualty, assistance was requested from the fire service to help with the the recovery of the injured person.

"Crews from Fleetwood and Bispham Fire Stations attended and helped with carrying the casualty, who was now in a stretcher, over to a safe area for further medical treatment before being airlifted by air ambulance."

A spokesman for the ambulance service said: "We were called to reports that a woman had fallen from the wall and suffered leg and head injuries.

"We sent an ambulance, rapid response vehicle and an air ambulance to the scene.

"The woman was airlifted to Royal Preston Hospital."
