A woman was taken to hospital after threatening to drown herself in the sea at Blackpool.
The 24-year-old was detained by police officers last night, while Coastguard rescuers were also scrambled.
Described by one official as ‘distressed and upset’, she was stopped from entering the Irish Sea close to North Pier and taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital for help.
Both Lytham and Fleetwood Coastguard rescuers were called out, and remained on the scene until an ambulance arrived.
The teams had a quiet Easter after expecting it to be busy. The break usually kicks off a busy summer on the Fylde coast for the Coastguard.
They were called out at around 1pm yesterday by passers-by on the Prom to paddle-boarders, but they did not need any help.
