An organised day of Bhangra, Bollywood and Indian classical dances in Blackpool recreated scenes from a Bollywood movie.
The scenes were filmed for the BBC’s The One Show in Blackpool’s Winter Gardens.
The One Show crew filmed in a number of locations to recreate movie scenes for a short documentary movie on Gurinder Chadha’s award-winning film, Bhaji on the Beach.
The day included a free screening of the movie ‘Bhaji on the Beach’ in the Winter Gardens for all to enjoy in the lead up to the dance performances.
Madhvi Chabba-Moudgil, of Nritya Sangam Indian and World Dance, organised the dances. She said: “There were two performances. One was the Bhangra Bollywood fusion, which was a group dance. I’m so proud of the girls, they did a wonderful job. They were so elegant and delicate and just happy to perform.
“I also did a solo performance of Indian classical dancing.
“It was an absolutely fantastic day. It was fun and exciting and the whole thing was very professional. The people in the audience loved it and the lovely weather made it even better, although it was very hot inside dancing under a glass roof! Everyone enjoyed being part of the film and the BBC One show crew were lovely and also very helpful.”
Around 100 people attended the event and there was a special appearance from two cast members of the film: Kim Vithana who played Ginder, and Amer Chadha-Patel who played Amrik.
The documentary will be screened on The One Show later this year.
