MPs are fighting for votes again – for a whole different reason.
Out have gone election manifestos and pledges to constituents, and in is... sexy.
Whether they like it or not, the Fylde coast’s MPs are being rated in a battle of the looks, following the launch of a new website.
Found at www.sexymp.co.uk, the site rates MPs’ looks – in rather crude terms.
Visitors are faced with two random MPs’ faces and are asked who they prefer. The coast’s political heavyweights gave a mixed response to the site.
Lancaster and Fleetwood MP Eric Ollerenshaw dismissed the whole idea, despite being the top-rated of our elected representatives.
Hovering around the Number 72 position, Mr Ollerenshaw said: “I just hope people have something better to do in life really.”
Fylde MP Mark Menzies was in 216th place. He joked: “This is a bit of fun which I’m sure will cause a stir around Westminster.
“I’m a bit disappointed to only be ranked 200 though among the male MPs. Hopefully a few of my supporters will go on and give me a few votes. The aim is to overtake my fellow Fylde MPs!”
Blackpool South’s Gordon Marsden sat six positions above, and Wyre’s Ben Wallace could be found in 165th position. Blackpool North and Cleveleys MP Paul Maynard gave the site short shrift, stating he had no comment to make. He was in 331st place yesterday.
Top-ranking male MP was Rossendale and Darwen’s Jake Berry, while the women’s table was topped by Liverpool MP Luciana Berger.
Prime Minister David Cameron was in 117th place, soundly beaten by opposition leader Ed Miliband in 49th,
The site is the brainchild of Francis Boulle, a star of reality TV series Made in Chelsea.
The 22-year-old diamond mining heir, described as one of the most eligible young men in the country by Tatler magazine, wrote on the site: “Although I fully expect this to offend some people, this was never my intention and I hope you see the funny side.”
