Blackpool-born actress Lara Denning is to join the cast of West End hit musical Charlie And The Chocolate Factory.
Lara, who grew up in Poulton, will play Charlie’s mum Mrs Bucket in the Theatre Royal Drury Lane production from Monday, May 4.
Until last September she appeared in another Roald Dahl-based musical, Matilda, including playing and understudying the role of kindly teacher Miss Honey, and went on to star in Dick Whittington in Bristol over the Christmas period.
Lara, whose brother Jaymz is one of the Tenors Of Rock who wowed crowds at last year’s Lytham Proms, will join another Lancashire star, Accrington lad Jonathan Slinger, who was recently announced as the new Willy Wonka.
There’s showbiz in her blood, with dad Jimmy Nairn a comedian and multi-instrumentalist who has performed in Blackpool and on cruise ships for years and mum Sue having headlined the Peggy Sue show at Central Pier.
Lara attended Thames Primary and Greenlands (now Bispham High) schools, and went on at 18 to top stage school Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts in London, where she still lives now.
Her other previous roles include All The Fun Of The Fair with David Essex, Dirty Dancing and The Rocky Horror Show.
It is currently booking at Theatre Royal Drury Lane until June 2016.
