Shocking pictures reveal devastating flood damage in Kirkham

Shocking pictures have emerged showing the devastating impact of floods in Kirkham today (August 11).

Homeowner Patrick Ştefănescu has shared images of his flood-wrecked home in Old Tarnbrick Way, off Blackpool Road, after water rushed through his downstairs rooms overnight.

Patrick said the water came pouring in from under his front door at around 3am, forcing him and his family to quickly move their at-risk furniture and possessions.

But as he and his partner rushed around trying to save their possessions, the home's electric suddenly cut out, leaving them in complete darkness whilst wading through ankle-deep water.

At 4am, the flooding became so serious that one of Patrick's neighbours was forced to call the fire service for help.

He said: "There's lots of damage to our home and garage. Carpets, TV, lots of electric stuff.

"And the electric in the house doesn't work. All the homes on our street look like they've suffered badly as well.

"Lots of people are outside cleaning and trying to dry their homes and possessions out on their driveways.

"The fire service came at 4am. I don't know who called them, but thank God they came.

"Fortunately, we have insurance, but some people in the area are not so lucky.

"But we will see what the Council will do about the flooding as it is the fault of the roads which are not draining like they should be.

"Our neighbours have two children and the next neighbour has a new born.

"None of us know what we will have to do for tonight. Do we stay in our homes or go to hotels? We just don't know yet. It's such as mess."

According to Patrick, the flooding has been caused by blocked drains on the A583 Blackpool Road, which struggled to cope with the sheer volume of rain overnight.

A spokesman for Fylde Borough Council said: "The overnight rain resulted in localised flooding in the Warton, Freckleton and Kirkham areas.

"In a multi-agency approach Fylde Officers were on the scene from early this morning liaising with fire and rescue and LCC with regards to immediate requirements for the local residents.

"It became apparent after speaking with the residents from the worse hit areas there was no requirement to activate the emergency plan with regards to the provision of temporary shelter and / or overnight accommodation.

"The assistance effort was hampered by the fact that it was refuse collection today in the Freckleton area.

"A number of surrounding roads were closed due to the flooding in the area preventing access for bin collection and additional resources will be allocated tomorrow to collect any bins unfortunately missed today."
