High tides expected and flood alert in place as Wyre council closes storm boards

Wyre council has closed all storm boards along the Wyre coastline in anticipation of high tides as a precaution.

The council advised members of the public not to approach or walk along the promenade, and to take extra care outdoors due to an "increased risk of injury."

It said it expects to keep the gates on the Wyre promenade closed until at least Friday, when the high tide is expected to continue until.

The Fleetwood and Knott End ferry will continue to run, but check online for updates.

A flood alert from the Environment Agency is currently in force for Wyre estuary, from Fleetwood and Knott End to Little Eccleston, with "flooding to properties/roads and low lying land possible."
