THE Under-12s and Under-14s from Arnold school have been crowned Lancashire champions, ending a remarkable season in which the Blackpool school won all four county A competitions they entered and reached two national finals.
These younger girls followed the Under-15s and Under-18s in claiming the county crown.
The Under-12s started their group with a 1-0 win over Kirkham GS, Milli Kenworthy scoring the decisive goal two minutes from time.
The next game against Heysham HS ended 3-0, with the Arnold goals coming from Milli Kenworthy (2) and Chloe Simon. Lytham St Annes were beaten 4-0 as Jade Yarwood scored twice, with Amelia Jepson and Chloe Simon also on target. The game against King Edward VII and Queen Mary’s ended goalless after KEQMS hit the post.
Arnold needed to win their two remaining matches to be crowned champions, and they defeated Baines in style.
Kenworthy scored twice, with Jepson and Simon also on target in the 4-0 win.
In a tense final game against Rossall, it took Jade Yarwood to seal the victory.
This meant all four Arnold teams came through their respective tournaments unbeaten.
The Under-14s were particularly impressive, captain Francesca Beeby scoring nine out of 24 goals for a team which did not concede a single one or a penalty corner. The other results and goal scores were:-
Beeby scored four in the 11-0 win over Lancaster, with others by Daisy Bradley 2, Emily Copp 2, Elle Greenhalgh, Hannah Denison and Lucy Whalley.
The other four games brought wins over Rossall 3-0 (Bradley, Beeby, Copp), Stonyhurst 5-0 (Beeby 3, Greenhalgh, Copp), KEQMS 3-0 (Bradley, Abigail Richardson, Denison) and Kirkham GS 2-0 (Beeby, Denison).
The season is not quite over for Arnold, whose Under-13s won contest the North Final of the National Mini-Hockey competition tomorrow after winning the county and regional events.
