Toddlers donned pirate hats and mermaid costumes as they joined in nautical-themed arts and crafts and learned about the vital work of the RNLI.

Nursery owner and RNLI volunteer Simon Turpie brought his dinghy to work on the back of a trailer, which the children were able to sit in and explore.

“The babies did marble paintings using shaving foam, which is part of their sensory learning programme, and the pre-school children made sailor hats and created their own pirate stories.

“It is a really good first-hand experience for the children that helps tremendously with speech and language.

“We raised £50 last year for the lifeboats thanks to a 50p donation from each child wearing fancy dress and we hope to at least match that figure again.”
