Walking on wild side earns group top Trust honour

Competing against hundreds of groups from the 47 Wildlife Trusts in the UK, Lytham was one of the top performers with judges saying the group has a “very dedicated bunch of children”

The group is made up of 34 children aged five to 11 years who meet every month to learn about their local environment and the differences they can make to protect wildlife on the Fylde.

It is run by dedicated volunteers Julie Norman, Ted Charnley, Debbie Davies and Annie Heslop. Julie and Ted have been volunteering for the Trust for more than 15 years.

The certificate was presented by David Beattie, Wildlife Watch Co-ordinator and Catherine Haddon, Volunteer Co-ordinator for Lancashire Wildlife Trust.

The judges said: “We were particularly impressed with the diversity of your activities which ranged from composting and wriggly worms to marine madness on St Annes beach.

The group received a signed certificate from BBC Spring Watch’s Nick Baker at a recent meeting, when they also met calves from Pemberton’s Dairy, Lytham.

Group leader and Park Ranger from QEII Park View Playing Fields in Lytham, Julie Norman said: “Congratulations to all of our Wildlife Watch members, they should all be very proud of their achievements.

“We are delighted with the award and we will proudly display it our new Eco Education Pod.”
