A walk on the Fylde side...

Two MPs got kitted out in their walking gear to reap the benefits of rambling along the Fylde’s wonderful coastline.

Fylde Ramblers were joined by Fylde MP Mark Menzies and Blackpool North and Cleveleys MP Paul Maynard in its efforts to help “build a walking Britain”.

The group met Mr Menzies at Lytham Windmill where he walked with them for three miles to St Annes.

The group then carried on to North Pier where they were joined by Mr Maynard for a similar length walk to Little Bispham.

The walk highlighted the importance of paths and green spaces in Lancashire and how these are beneficial to the health and wellbeing of people in the Fylde area.

Ian Wardle, Secretary of the Fylde group, said: “We’re pleased Mark and Paul were able to discover first-hand the benefits of walking and enjoy a ramble along the Fylde coast.

“Walking offers an effective, low-cost solution to many of the problems we face in Fylde.

“It’s good for our mental and physical health and therefore reduces healthcare costs, it supports our local economy and it’s good for the environment and our local neighbourhoods.

“We know walking is one of the most accessible, achievable and enjoyable ways to get people in Fylde more active.”

Mr Menzies said: “I had a great day walking along the Fylde coast with the Fylde Ramblers group.

“I’d urge everyone in Fylde to get out and enjoy the wonders of walking.”

Mr Maynard said: “It’s a fun, free and easy way to spend an afternoon or a day, not to mention something that’s good for your health and wellbeing.”
