A woman is in a “serious” condition in hospital after she was attacked in a Blackpool hotel.

The 21-year-old, from Cumbria, was rushed to Royal Preston Hospital following a “prolong, violent assault”, detectives say.

Police were called to the Regent Hotel, on Springfield Road, at around 8am on Thursday to reports of an attack in one of the rooms.

The victim is in a serious but stable condition after suffering significant head and facial injuries, police said.

Det Insp Gareth Willis, of Blackpool CID, said: “This was a prolonged, violent assault on a young woman.

“Thankfully the hotel owner, along with some workmen who were renovating a nearby property, bravely intervened and restrained the man otherwise I fear this could have resulted in a fatality.”

A 35-year-old man from Blackpool was arrested at the scene on suspicion of wounding with intent. He is currently in police custody.
