Village’s bloom success to hit national stage

One of Elswick's stunning floral displays which have seen it named Best North West Village in the North West in Bloom Awards

The village also received the top Gold Award for the sixth year in succession and the judges were so impressed what they saw in Elswick that the village has been invited to represent the North West of England in the National Britain in Bloom Competition next year.

Elswick in Bloom co-ordinator Coun Paul Hayhurst who also received the 2015 personal Outstanding Achievement Award from the North West in Bloom Committee said: “This is marvellous news for Elswick. We have a dedicated team of volunteers who work hard throughout the year and winning the competition is a just reward for all their efforts.

“Particular mention must go to Andrew Atkinson our village lengthsman who is out in all weathers tending the plants and keeping the village clean and tidy.

“Our work starts now for next year as having previously been placed joint second in the National Britain in Bloom Competition we are determined to win it for the North West in 2016.”
