Fylde villagers are to hold a meeting tomorrow night on the issue of fracking.

Residents of Roseacre, Treales and Elswick are being invited by the Roseacre Awareness Group to a presentation at the Boys Brigade Hall in Carr Lane.

Barbara Richardson of the Roseacre Action Group said it was their chance to give their side of the argument on the controversial method of extracting natural gas from shale rock deep below the Fylde.

Gas exploration company Cuadrilla Resources has applied for planning permission to drill up to four exploratory wells at Roseacre and hydraulically fracture the shale to test if gas can be extracted commercially.

She said: “Roseacre is in effect going to set the precedent for the rest of the country.

“If fracking is allowed to go ahead here it will go ahead anywhere.

“This is a rural community and we are concerned about its effects on the environment, the community, agriculture and tourism.

“We have great crested newts, brown hare, pink footed geese, barn owls and bats here which need to be protected.

“We would like everyone to come along to find out as much as they can about the whole fracking issue.”

The meeting, which has been organised with the help of campaign group Frack Off, will take place from 7pm to 9pm and coffee and tea will be provided.
