A Fylde village has announced plans to remember its First World War heroes with a special night of events.

At 11pm on August 4, 1914, Britain joined the Great War and 100 years later, to mark the centenary, Warton is to hold an evening of remembrance.

Coun Julie Brickles, of Fylde Council, said: “Warton lost a number of men, both at the front and after the end of the war.

“At 8pm we will see a short service at a flagpole with a live playing of Last Post, after which there is time to visit an exhibition at St Paul’s Church in Warton, hear music and readings, lay wreaths, light candles and attend a commemoration service. At 11pm, a special candle will be extinguished, and in this way Warton will join towns and villages up and down the country in remembering those who went away from home and fought on behalf of us all.”
