Knife-wielding robbers have attacked security guards at a Fylde supermarket in a terrifying cash-in-transit raid.

Police say two or three men ambushed the guards who were delivering cash to Sainsbury’s in St Andrew’s Road North in St Annes at 8.30am on Monday.

They grabbed cash before escaping in a Mini along St Andrew’s Road North towards Blackpool.

The incident happened inside the store, police said.

Eye witnesses said the car registration was M113 LU but were unable to get the final digit. It was later found abandoned in Belmont Court, St Annes.

The guards were shaken but unhurt.
