A fire service spokesman said the man had been on the first floor of the property when it was rocked by the explosion.

He was taken to hospital, although his injuries were not thought to be serious, police said yesterday.

Meanwhile, new aerial images show the scale of the damage to the property, which was described by police as a guest house but was privately occupied.

An investigation into the cause of the blast is ongoing and it is likely to be weeks before the three-storey terraced property is safe to enter.
