Several scarecrows were stolen by heartless thieves at a Blackpool show.

Raiders targeted the Blackpool Civic Trust Scarecrow Festival in Salisbury Wood overnight on Friday.

Vandals damaged scarecrows and stole three displays from the event, held near Stanley Park.

Trust chairman Joan Humble said the festival, held over the weekend, had been a great success, but called the thefts and vandalism “upsetting.”

She added: “We were there early on Saturday and repaired what damage had been done.

“Although a couple of scarecrows were still missing, it was still a wonderful spectacle and hundreds of people came out. We were proud to rise above petty vandalism and pleased people came out to support us.

“It is a shame people who come in and try to ruin work that others have taken weeks and weeks to do.”
