UPDATED: Teen, 18, arrested after up to 50 homes evacuated amid '˜suspicious material' scare

A cordon has been lifted after a number of properties were evacuated by police when suspicious material was discovered in a Blackpool house.

Up to 50 properties were affected near the property on Endsleigh Gardens, police said.

A Lancashire Police spokesman said: “A man has been arrested on suspicion of possessing an explosive substance after items were found at an address on Endsleigh Gardens in Blackpool.

“Officers were called to the property at about 8.15am today and a cordon was established around the property.

“A number of nearby properties were evacuated as a precaution and a number of roads were closed and diversions put in place.

“The Explosives Ordnance Department attended and a number of items were recovered from the address.

“Searches have been carried out at the address on Endsleigh Gardens and an address on The Boulevard in St Annes.

“An 18-year -old man from Lytham St Annes was arrested and is currently in custody.”

An investigation is on-going.
