UPDATE: Woman in '˜serious' condition after accident with bus

A woman who was involved in an accident with a bus in Lytham Road, Blackpool, was today seriously ill in hospital.

The incident happened shortly after 5.20pm yesterday when the 35-year-old local woman was struck by the bus at the junction of Lytham Road and Horncliffe Road.

She suffered serious head injuries and was taken by ambulance to the Royal Preston Hospital where she remains in a serious condition.

The road was closed for three hours for accident investigation and traffic was diverted.

Sgt Finn Quainton, of the Road Policing Unit, said: “This incident has left a woman with serious injuries and I would appeal to anyone who saw the collision, or the woman in the moments before, to get in touch.”

Meanwhile in another incident, firefighters were called to Fir Grove, Blackpool, last night.

Crews from South Shore and Blackpool turned out to a fire in a first floor bedroom.

There were no casualties and firefighters equipped with breathing apparatus used a hosereel jet to extinguish the fire.
