Junction four of the M55 has reopened after both carriageways were closed when a man was seen on the wrong side of the railings on a bridge.

Police closed the motorway to deal with the incident at which began just after 5pm on Sunday, but were able reopen all lanes at around 7.30pm.

It is believed the man was threatening to jump off the bridge close to the roundabout near the Tesco store at the Clifton industrial estate.

Police had to cut off access to the main route into and out of Blackpool.
