Duncan Griffiths, branch secretary for the PCS civil service union on the Fylde, said: “Over the next few days, the branches locally will be highlighting the fact that there is a need to improve health and safety provisions for the members, particularly with the problem of stress in the workplace.

“The job cuts on the Fylde, the pay freeze and the severe pay restraint over the past seven years, the attacks on members’ pensions together with the continual threat of further privatisations mean that conditions such as stress inevitably increase.”

He added: “There is a lot of stress and pressure not only on those threatened with losing their job but also on those remaining who have to try and deal with an increasing workload.”
