TWO men are being quizzed by detectives after a blaze broke out in a block of flats.

The fire took hold in a ground floor flat at the former New Bank Holiday Flats on Albert Road on Saturday.

Detectives have been interviewing two men aged 34 and 40 in custody.

Det Sgt Neil Fowler, of Blackpool CID, said: “Investigations are still on-going following a fire at the block of flats, which I believe is now a multi-occupancy building.

“Two people were arrested on suspicion of arson following the fire. They are in custody and are being interviewed.

“We believe there has been some form of dispute prior to the fire but we are trying to pick the pieces out.

“I would appeal for anyone with information about the incident to contact us.”

Firefighters were sent to the scene around 11.30pm on Saturday.

Three people were rescued from the building and taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital to be checked over.

Officers used breathing apparatus, a hose reel and thermal imaging equipment to tackle the fire.

Crime scene investigators remained at the scene at the weekend.

The flat was severely damaged by smoke and a bed destroyed by the flames.

Anyone with information about the blaze can contact Blackpool Police on (01253) 293933 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
