Blackpool-based Peace of Mind DNA has been asked by Shine TV, which produces Master Chef and The Island with Bear Grylls, to help with a potential new series which looks at family relationships and kinship.

Caroline Morton, from the Church Street company, which is the only walk-in DNA testing centre of its kind in the country, said the show would have a similar tone to Long Lost Families rather than Jeremy Kyle’s daytime TV show which famously uses DNA tests for paternity disputes.

She said: “The people at Shine TV are looking to film human stories in a dignified, responsible way.

“They will pay for the DNA tests and they have a psychologist lined up to help people with any issues that may arise. We want to challenge the perception that DNA testing is only for a certain swathe of society.

“We have already had many people come forward from the region to share their stories, but as a proud Blackpool company we want people from the Fylde coast to take part.”

To take part email [email protected] or call 0207 483 6742.

Caroline said that she launched the Church Street company to fill a need for a walk in service for everyone to help them find out about their heritage or to give them an indication of family origins or potential health issues.

She said online services gave a basic report while they offered a caring and personal service to help people through the whole process and to deal with the results.
